Using Real names in Blogs

What do you think about using real names in blogs? I find myself struggling to remember to change names or shorten to initials or to go by nicknames. I like the idea of keeping some items like names secret because I know there are lots of crazies in the world. Should I keep my current stance and shy away from real names or is it ok to move to the usage of the first names?
