Paleo

If you're like me you read the title "Paleo" and assumed it was some sort of sickness. Actually, it's not a sickness in fact it is a diet that will help you to optimize your health, lose weight, and reduce disease! I am not one for dieting but the idea of making a healthier life style change seems like a good one to me.

Before I decided to join this Paleo diet I did some research to figure out what it was exactly. I ended up with this.

"The Paleo Diet is a way of eating in the modern age that best mimics diets of our hunter-gatherer ancestors - combinations of lean meats, seafood, vegetables, fruits, and nuts. By eating the foods that we are genetically adapted to eat, followers of the Paleo Diet are naturally lean, have acne-free skin, improved athletic performance, and are experiencing relief from numerous metabolic-related and autoimmune diseases."

I also found this video from some of the Paleo blogs I have started reading. It's a 6 minute video in support of the paleo diet.

After doing the research I am still a little hesitant. This diet seems like a huge life change for me and an even bigger items in the fridge change for my husband (who does not eat veggies other than corn and edamame). Since I'll be prepping and cooking for one, this also seems like an expensive diet. However, with the help of some Paleo blogs and my amazing supporting husband, even with hesitation I think I'm going to give it a try

Paleo Blogs I've recently added to my google reader just in case you want to check them out.

Cousin Day

Remember when the hubs and I took one of our cousins to celebrate their Birthday? Well it was past due that we make do on our promise on E's Brother's Birthday day, a C Day.

We asked C what he wanted to do for his C Day but the weather wasn't permitting of a golf day. So the hubs threw out some different ideas including, going to the movies, an indoor put put and going to Dave & Busters. Once the idea of going to D&B was thrown out, there was no looking back. We were going to order Cs favorite pizza and then hit the arcade.

When we arrived the hub's eyes were as big as little Cs. The amount of older more mature than Chuckie Cheese games was overwhelming and exciting all at the same time. One of the coolest games that the boys got to enjoy was an interactive sports game. You could play soccer, baseball, basketball, golf or even hockey. The boys took their chance at their best slap shot.

After a long night of pizza and games, we made our way back home for C's big sleep over. We got to catch 1 episode of iCarly and then it was off to bed. C wasn't the only one excited for the sleep over, Minne girl was equally excited to be sharing her room with her new favorite guest. She especially loved listening to prayer time.

We woke up early and had ourselves bowls of cereal and we watched Saturday morning TV. I don't think the hubs nor myself had done that in ages.  IT WAS GREAT. I took the pigskin outside and threw around with little C for a bit while the hubs took care of some errands. Post football, it was time to get ready for, WAIT lets play a game. Can you guess where we went next based off the next photo?

I am guessing the amount of mini vans may have given it away but we went to little Cs soccer game. It was fun to see him play but it was just as fun to watch all the kiddos. Some of them are very serious and already very competitive at this age, others well...not so much. Case in point, look at the photo below. Little C is playing goalie while the 2 defenders are practicing karate on each other.

All in all it was a great C day. We have one more birthday day to celebrate but I think we may have to wait till it get's a little colder because the 3rd cousin wants to go ice skating. Can't wait :)

Roger Waters The Wall

Last week I had the please of working/enjoying 3 out of 4 Roger Water performances. I knew nothing about Roger waters other than that he played with Pink Floyd and I grew up listening to my grandma and dad listening to them.

At the show I was pleasantly surprised that I knew every song. Although my grandma couldn't come up for the shows, it was great to be able to share the experience with my mom and dad.

Even if you weren't a Pink Floyd lover, even if you didn't completely understand the entire show, the props and the performance itself was something short of spectacular. I especially enjoyed the current day references to our current political war state.

If Roger Waters is coming to a theater any where near you, I highly recommend that you dish out the dough and see this show.

PS It's amazing that I get to work a show like The Wall and later that week prep for an on sale date for Lady Gaga Tickets. Life can be so good sometimes.

Teach Me Photo Shop

Please, teach me photo shop.

original fall photo

In college I was taught Quark but now that I am in the big girl world, I use Photoshop CS4 (every thing gets longer or becomes an acronym in places of business). Besides making images lo-res and goofing around with photos, I have to confess, I have no clue what I am doing.

photo copy 1

Does anyone have any helpful hints or tricks for me?

photo copy 2

Or should I just keep playing around?

photo copy 3

Ok maybe I shouldn't. But to be honest, I don't think I am terrible.

I just love pretty colors.

But sometimes I just love all things grey.

Missed Minne Monday?

Did you miss Minne Monday? Me too! Work is crazy and the hubs is out of town but I was able to pull together some photos of Minne with her arch nemesis, the chipmunk.

Minne stares out the window all day watching the chipmunk running and playing. Sometimes, the chipmunk will come right up to the window and put its face up against Minne's and then he will run away.

After living here for over a year, I just feel bad for the pup. So last week, we were on our walk and the chipmunk got super brave and ran out right in our path looked at me and looked at Minne and then walked away. No he didn't run, he literally walked away! I was so mad that this bully was teasing Minne girl. I don't know what came over me but I let go of the leash.

Minne chased the small sneaky bully all the way around the building. I was running as fast as I could gasping for breath while I tried to catch up (we'll talk about me being out of shape another day).At this point my biggest fear was "what will happen if she catches him."

Luckily for me anyway, Minne didn't catch up to him. We rounded the corner and the bull ran under the AC unit to hide. Minne got thrown for a loop. She couldn't find him. Can you?

How about now?

What a sneaky little booger. Minne finally caught on but at that point the Bully was gone. So the adventures of Minne and the Bully continue.

Amber Waves of Grain

Some people may find driving through the midwest flat and boring but when you see sights like this, how can you not be in awe. Check out the amber waves of grain and what about the wind generators? Together it's amazing how so much power and energy comes from these fields.

This was just some of our sights on our drive to visit Purdue University. Stop one on our college tour this past weekend.

Minne Monday

Happy Minne Monday!

This past weekend we left Minne with her Aunt Sam while the hubs and I took my little sister on some college tours. Minne was still cheering on her dad's Alma Mater.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my dad's Birthday. I got the chance to celebrate with him last night over desert with the family. It was great.

Happy Birthday daddy!

College Visits

This weekend the hubs and I are taking this little one on some college visits. We should have some great photos come next week.

I can't believe she is already a junior in high school! Time really flies.

PS I think the hubs is more excited about tailgating then the actual college visits. Although, he looks for any excuse to visit his Alma Mater - Purdue.

Are you doing any thing fun this weekend?

Princess

I grew up in a family surrounded by little girls, in my family we were all princesses, weren't you? So it should come as no surprise that when the Disney Princess on Ice show comes to the UC, I get really really pumped. Since my department is predominately male, I have to secretly contain all my excitement. Normally I am not shy about these things but I get made fun of enough as it is.

This week I am consumed with all things Princess. It's hard for me to share photos with you but if you want to see some cutie patooties you should for sure check out this link, it may even bring you back to your childhood days.

Happy feel like a princess day!

South Bend, Boo Notre Dame

Last weekend the hubs and I made our way to the great city of South Bend to visit some friends and partake in the 1st weekend of college football. Tailgate Saturday started early. It was about 56 degrees with 35 mph winds but that wasn't stopping anyone from having a good time. The hubs started out with some early morning games of corn hole, beer in hand.

While tailgating, the hubs spotted his dream machine. Atually, it was an old ice cream truck converted into a Purdue Mobile. We took about a half hour and scoped it out.

It was nothing but awesome according to the hubs. Here he is inside the truck with one of the vehicle owners and his bud, Dan.

The tailgate festivities continued and we made our way over to the lots by the staidum to pick up our tickets. The lots were full of crazy fun super fans, Notre Dame or Purdue fans, every one was really nice and almost everyone was willing to share their food and beverages.

We met some college students who asked if I was a sophmore at Purdue. I was flattered and the hubs of course loved making new college friends. I guess it keeps us young.

Before walking into the game we ran into one of our cousins. It was a great treat. Ity would ahve been better if she was wearing the correct colors. Oh well, I think the hubs forgave her.

And then the game began. The day could  have gone alot better.

As I am sure you know, Notre Dame won.

Post game we were exhausted and we had caught wind burn to our faces. We headed home and spent the rest of the weekend recooperating, as we will be doing it all again next weekend. In fact, we will be bringing my baby sister on an Indiana & Purdue tour. I think the hubs is just excited to have one more reason to tailgate.

Working in A Tech Department

My grandma likes the fact that I technically work in the Tech department. Actually, she loves it because at one point in her loife she was a female in the tech industry. She would laugh so hard when she would watch the SNL techie skits.

On our morning call today, she was reminded about the skits. Since that call I have recieved 2 emails with the following videos. My grandma cracks me up and so do these videos. I hope you enjoy!

It's September

Wow I cannot believe that September is here! My schedule is fully packed with work alone (see for yourself) .

Here's some quick did you knows about Septemeber (via Wikipedia)
  • In Latin, septem means "seven" and septimus means "seventh"; September was in fact the seventh month of the Roman calendar until 153 BC, when the first month changed from Kalendas Martius (1 March) to Kalendas Januarius (1 January).
  • September begins on the same day of the week as December every year, because there are 91 days separating September and December, which is a multiple of seven (the number of days in the week).
  • September 21 is the International Day of Peace
  • September 19 is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
  • National Grandparents Day (I HEART THIS) takes place on the first Sunday after Labor Day in the United States and Canada
And of course there are some days that are important to my family
  • Start of college football Purdue vs Notre Dame (a hubs favorite)
  • Baseball playoffs
  • Friends Birthdays and my Dad's Birthday
  • My sister-in-law takes her Nursing school boards

Holy buckets we're going to be busy!
