Minne Monday

Minne is sad that Purdue didn't make it to the Sweet Sixteen nor the elite 8 (again).

However, she's stoaked to be a dog and to have a mom that provides her with a basketball team that she can watch into April. Go Dawgs.

PS anyone know where I can get Butler fabric for a dawgs kind of blanket? I'm getting desperate. May have to do one side all navy and the other side with a bulldawg fabric?

Minne is going to hate me

Just received a forward email with dog photos. I am pretty sure I have a new dress up idea for Minne.

I don't know where this photo came from, but if you do please let me know so I can give it proper credit.

Minne Monday Part 2

After I ran away, I was punished by some sort of allergic reaction. Not sure what did it, maybe my medicine or perhaps the bug I was playing with in my mouth bit me? Not really sure. But I do know one thing, I was super glad I was at home and not wondering the streets. Without mom and dad I am not sure what I would have done.

As you can see, my entire face started swelling. I started wheezing and mom and dad took me to the animal hospital. Once we got there, they gave me shots and I had to sit there to make sure the swelling went down. They say most dogs react within 30 minutes, it took me almost 2 hours. We had to wait in the lobby, I was miserable, I didn't even want to get up to beg for a treat or smell the other smells.

Mom and dad sat with me all night. And the best part? I got to sleep in the bed again (after the previous night fiasco, I was punished to sleeping in my own bed). #winning

Where Have I Been?

Well, are you wondering? Here goes:
  • I've been paying a ton of money to Uncle Sam (damn taxes)
  • I've been chasing my 17lbs Boston Terrier all over the town I live in
  • I've been nursing my Boston Terrier to health
  • I've been working insane hours at the United Center for set up and tear down of the NCAA rounds 2 & 3 of the tourney
  • I've been trying to enjoy watching my beloved Bulldogs
  • Still training for that crazy half marathon (what was I thinking)
Hopefully, after tear down tonight, I will have a little bit more free time to elaborate with plenty of photos to come. Until then I leave you with this (behind the scenes of where I work). Enjoy.

Minne

Minne's been spending a lot of time in the yard eating rabbit poop. I told her if she didn't behave I was going to trade her in for Hook 'Em...

...the cutest, sweetest bull I have ever met in my life.

I haven't seen her eat poop in 2 days. It's either because she's terrified of my threat, or my husband has picked it all up.

I'm hoping I scared her, although it's doubtful. Neither of them take me very seriously. I wonder why?

Cousin Buddy is Coming

Right now, Minne is anxiously awaiting for the arrival of her cousin Buddy.
She's already had her bath

And she pulled out all of her toys, so that Buddy could find them easier. 2x (I've already picked them up this morning)

Now only a few more hours of staring out the window waiting for Buddy.

Minne and the Blizzardmania

Tuesday night was just terrible. The winds were so bad it felt like I was living in the house from Wizard of Oz. Along with things like our pilot light going out, we had a dog who refused to go outside to the bathroom. Instead, she opted to sleep all of Tuesday evening into early afternoon Wednesday.

At that point we could tell she really had to go to the bathroom. She was pacing and making some whiny noises, so we decided we had to make her go out.

Attempt 1 didn't go so well.

Attempt 2 (about an hour later) went a little better, although you can see my hand pushing her out the door. We're still not sure that she went.
Finally we got her to go out for less than 5 seconds to do her business (no video, but come on do you really want to see that?).

Storms can be very traumatic on animals

She followed it up with another 5 hours of sleep while the hubs and I shoveled. More photos to come.

Blizzardmania

Snow!

I live in the Midwest, scratch that I live in the Chicago land area. Let's be real here, this city was made for snow, half our budgets get poured into snow and ice removal. Snow days are far and in between. 11 inches of snow, work is still on, 2 feet of snow over a 2-3 day period, work is still on.

snow in Wheaton

However, in the instance that we do get this so called "'Life-threatening’ blizzard" (you know the one where we have rapid accumulation in a short stint of time with a punch of winds) I received this email from my boss.

Lets keep an eye on the weather, if the we get what its expected overnight Tuesday, I don’t want any of you in on Wednesday. There are a few folks closer to the building that can muster in if needed.  We will most likely have an EQ* tomorrow to get people out before the weather hits hard.
*EQ is our office terminology for Early Quit

the one and only snow day from when I lived in Minnesota

Due to my early am dentist appointment tomorrow combined with tomorrow's EQ, I've been privileges with the chance to work from home. So tonight, I'm going to put together my survival kit and then prep for the best 2 snow day ever. Here's what I am thinking
  • a corncob pipe, a button and some coal for the best snowman ever (I wasn't prepared in Minnesota)
  • a shovel and some buckets to turn our kids playset in the yard into a winter fort (Minne's gonna be stoaked)
  • Catch up on thank you cards (I'm so behind) and help Minne work on her Valentine's
  • Maybe some baking
  • hot cocoa, wood in the fire place me cuddled on the sofa with a good book in hand
  • perhaps a sled ride with the hubs - we'll see if he gets all his shoveling done first ;)

If you were to have a snow day, what would you do?
PS I bet Minne is going to be most excited.

Minne Monday

Recovering from the best Birthday weekend ever. A trip to Two Bostons, new toys, Bowser Beer and a salmon treat.

Not to mention, clean new sheets on the bed, I love that. Thanks mom and dad.

January Can't End Until - Love Min

January cannot end until we celebrate my Birthday.

As I grow a year older, I am no longer afraid of that peske window in my kitchen! BOOM Happy Birthday to me.

It's also been made aware that because I am an older more mature dog I can no longer have Birthday parties with my friends, apparently that's only for babies. I reminisce:

and some more

You think I will still get presents?

I missed you!

It's true I really did miss you. In fact, I think I missed you as much as Minne missed me her weekly Minne Monday shout out. So much to tell you but for now, I'll leave you with this.

Minne Monday

Hey look guys, I'm ready to go to the Blackhawks game for dad's surprise 30th Birthday. Wait it's Monday at 8:45 and you haven't woken up yet. What's going on here?

Oh wait, you already went?  partied so hard and now are sleeping all day? And I wasn't invited? What happened to it being my Birthday month?

Minne Monday: Atopic Dermatitis

A few weeks back we realized that Minne's white paws and belly kept looking more and more pink, her hair loss was getting worse and her mood wasn't her happy go lucky self. We finally bit the bullet and decided to take her to the dermatologist. After the first consultation visit we were out $500 and we had to schedule another visit which was going to cost us close to $800.

Yeah yeah we know it sounds really expensive, believe us, after just buying a house and the holidays, it was really expensive. But you know what else is expensive? Every time Minne would have a bad allergic reaction, we would have to rush her to the vet, where they would run tests and then inject her with steroids.

Do you know how much that costs? About $150 (sometimes more) every time we went. In the summer, some months we had to take her to the vet 2 or 3 times a month. Poor Min. After doing the math if these bills were a one time thing, and if the dermatologist was able to diagnose her, we would only be paying $70 a month for shots (the first 2 months of shots would actually be included in the $800 of the 2nd visit). Long term, it looks like we could save money and have a happier dog and since she isn't even 4 years old yet, it was time to bite the bullet. We also learned that the steroid shots that she was getting every time she had a bad reaction were part to blame for her hair loss and they also effected her anxiety and mood overall. Enough said.

So over the holidays I took a morning off work to take Mine to the dermatologist. There, the doc took her from me for an hour. They shaved her and marked her and injected her with little amounts of antigen. Afterwards, they observe the surface area to determine if she was allergic to any of the agents they gave her. This is called Inradermal Skin Testing. It's the same practice that is done on people.

This was taken a few hours after her tests. As you can see, there are a lot of red/discolored marks showing everything she is allergic to. Ready for the list?
  • Kentucky Blue Grass
  • Anything sheep related, especially wool
  • Tobacco, all things smoke related
  • All bugs that bite (from flies, mosquitoes to tics)
  • Mites
  • 3 kinds of trees
  • 2 kinds of weeds
and more that weren't ranked as high, but these are the majors.

The result is she has Atopic Dermatitis, which is essentially environmental allergies. This is common among people and pets, who knew? The solution - The vet spent some time building some formulas based on Mins allergies and they packaged them into these cute little viles. I take these files and that I inject the formula into Minne on a scheduled basis. I was a little worried about having so much power of these shots in my hand. I mean, I didn't want Minne to hate me every time I gave her a shot and I didn't want to hurt her. Luckily, 3 shots in, she doesn't seem phased. We'll see how she's doing in a few months, as the doctor said it can take awhile for the shots to build up her immunity to all her allergies and we may not see results for up to 9 months.

MORE ON ATOPIC DERMATITIS via WebMD
  • Susceptible breeds include Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Lhasa Apsos, Wire Fox Terriers, West Highland White Terriers, Dalmatians, Poodles, English Setters, Irish Setters, Boxers, and Bulldogs, among others, although any dog may be affected. Even mixed breeds may suffer from atopy.
  • Atopy begins in dogs 1 to 3 years of age.
  • In early canine atopy, itching is seasonal and the skin looks normal. Dogs scratch at the ears and undersides of the body. The itching is often accompanied by face-rubbing, sneezing, a runny nose (known as allergic rhinitis),watery eyes, and licking at the paws

Happy New Years Eve

This year like years past, I'm left at work reading all your "3 day work week" and "Off for 3 days" Facebook status. You would think I'd be over this working on NYE and New Years day thing since I've been doing it for what feels like forever...but I'm not.

But it's still the holidays and I am trying to stay positive. I did have Christmas day off so that was a first and I enjoyed every minute of it. Also, when I have to work, that means the hubs has to clean, cook, and prep for our annual NYE party (3 years in the making). That makes things a little less stressful right? So when I get home today, I will just be able to enjoy the night with friends and family and Chicago's finest, Goose Island.

PS Per Minne, this year the poppers aren't invited.

PSS If you're wondering why think back to the NYE we spent in Naperville. At midnight the poppers went crazy and Minne got so scared she pooped herself. 3 time.  No lie.

Random Blackberry Photos Take 2

A few more Randoms to clean up before the new year. (Other's found here)

My daily view on my way to work. Love Chicago!

The 1tt tree we ever had that we didn't cut down. It's also our 1st ever Griswold tree, more here.

Our new house has really bare walls. Our tree was lacking presents since Landon and I decided our house was our Christmas. Most of these presents went to cousin Buddy.

Minne running away from the cold at our old apartment. You can tell my the door that it was ghetto.

My custom jersey that you'll see featured on our Holiday card that should arrive sometime in 2011.

Minne super pissed that I brought my work home with me.

The start of putting together our basement.

REMINDER: Need to update this hallway for work.

Minne making sure Buddy isn't doing anything bad.

"Can we sleep in a few more minutes mom?"

Classic Buddy, waiting for someone to feed him.

Random Blackberry Photos

Since my camera has been broken I've been using my Blackberry to capture everything. Figured it was time to start cleaning out the 2010 photos. Here's some 2010 randoms.
Crop out I65 and you have some pretty snowy trees. I take snowy photos and send them to my grandma in Florida since she can't experience the snow from down south. Here's another

My aunt and uncle have an ice skating rink in the back yard. The boys play hockey and the girls in my family pose for pretty photos.

Grandma and Grandpa enjoying the perks of me and my uncle's job.

Not a great pic of grandpa but a pretty cool shot of the United Center (shameless plug).
